Self Sovereignty

To be a self sovereign means to be a king, a ruler, a master of the self.

On the face of it, it would appear that  I am the master. I decide what I do, where I go, who I meet and who I don’t.

Yet, if I take a minute to step back and look within, then I see another story.
My thoughts create my feelings. Both thoughts and feelings are the basis of the decisions I make, and the life I experience.

If I were the master, the sovereign, I would decide to be forever happy, content and at peace. I would decide to enjoy every moment of life. However the reality is that I go through life and experience so much which I would not choose to. So who is choosing? Who is my ‘master’?

The mind is like a wild horse. It gallops from one attraction to another in the hope of finding satisfaction. With it I ride the ride of life’s ups and downs

Hold on to the reins of the mind, the horse, and guide it in a chosen direction. My feelings and thus my experience of life, will follow on behind. Don’t let go of the reins for even a second, for the horse is wild. That is the challenge. That is what it takes to become a self sovereign.

Om Shanti
