What’s driving me?

illusion

When disagreements happen, let me stop and check why I am fighting the fight – what is in it for me?

On the surface it may be a simple reason of proving the truth, wanting the right things to happen or even standing up for someone.
If I check deeper, at the more subtle things that drive me then I am likely to find something revealing about myself. What really is my motive, what is my intention?

Buried deep below the surface I will come to discover that this is where my ego looms – the need to be respected and counted, or maybe the need to be in control or something else.

When I can name the intent and motive very clearly it will lose its power. The realisation that I have will be enough to dis-empower it. Then the disagreement and fight will seem trivial and not worth the fight.

What is my intention and motive …do I really know?

Decision-Making Power

the_power_to_Discern

Living in demanding and fast paced times, we are often faced with having to make snap decisions.

Under such pressures, how do I know if I am making the right decisions?

When I constantly practice the art of being a detached observer, stepping aside from my own needs and wants, rising above influences of learnt behaviours, acquired beliefs and distorted perceptions, the decision-making process becomes natural and easy. Because as a detached observer, my decision-making is powered by the foundation of truth and pure-intent.

Allowing my decisions to be based on truth and purity, I will remain free from any worries of what the outcome maybe… I simply ensure I respond from the right space.

Motivation or Intention

reasons

Behind motivation is always a reason – a goal. That goal then becomes the drive to do something – the motivation.

Intention on the other hand is a much deeper and more subtle character. It is based on deep feelings within the heart – good or bad feelings alike. Those feelings then become the drive behind our goals and aspirations.

So what, I hear you ask…

It is far easier to see our motivations but to see our intentions requires us to dig deeper within the self.

I wish to win the race is my motivation. If I fail then my drive dissipates, my hope and self belief start to falter.
Of course I wish to win the race, but if my intention is to prove I am capable, then win or lose I will not have lost the drive behind the action – the self respect and the will to carry on.

Am I driven by motivation or intention?

Good Intentions

good_intentions

Everything begins with good intentions – what we say, what we do etc.

The thinking that follows is a by-product of intention. However my thoughts are also coloured by my past experiences and future desires and so the thinking, and thus the intention, becomes influenced.

‘If my intention is for them to be happy then why are my thoughts, feelings and actions not demonstrating that when they decide to go against what I would like them to do?’

It takes great humility to step back and to see what is happening, and then to allow myself the time and space to reconnect with the roots of my intention. The moment I do that I will free myself of the burden of fulfilling the intention.

Sustaining a connection with ourselves is what is required for us to remain true and pure in our feelings and intentions.

7 Steps to Happiness

7steps-happiness

The purpose of life is to experience happiness. Relationships are for sharing happiness.

Happiness is the eternal nature of the soul. it is not something that I have to earn but something I discover within the self.

The secrets to happiness:

  • Take advantage of every opportunity to give happiness to others through kindness in your thoughts, words and actions.
  • Live in the present moment and make the most of what you have now.
  • Let the past be the past. It cannot be changed no matter how much I re-think it.
  • Never hold on to anything or anyone. Change is a part of life, it can never remain the same.
  • Check your intentions. If I have a needy nature and always want to gain something from a situation or person, then I will never be able to hold on to happiness.
  • Don’t waste time looking at the weaknesses and mistakes of others. They are not in your control.
  • Appreciate and care for yourself. Remember that at the core you are a really lovely person.

Take another step towards happiness today!

Peace or War?

peace_war

Our thoughts, supported by our feelings are the cause of the inner battles and emotional turmoil that we experience. They are responsible for our outer battles too.

Negative and waste thoughts will multiply rapidly, each supporting the last. These in turn will fuel negative emotions within the self. We find ourselves criticising and justifying things which develops into irritation, dislike or even anger.

Our thoughts can be our worst enemy or they can be our best friend. The choice is ours. We can use them to plan for battle or chose to create peace. Both are only a thought away.

Check your thoughts. Are they positive and filled with good intentions for the self and others?

Karma

Karma simply means action. Karma will bring it’s own fruit. The fruits of today (good or bad) have come as a direct result of past karma. Nothing happens by chance and there is no such thing as ‘good’ or ‘back’ luck!

What then influences the actions that I perform? My thoughts, my attitude, my intentions and motives become the springboard from which I perform our each and every action.

Ensure that the seed of influence behind each action is good. Then the action itself will be good and the fruit of that will definitely be good.

Om Shanti.
